A second postmortem examination of singer Zubeen Garg will be carried out at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday, 23 September, at 7:30 am.
Announcing the decision at a press conference on Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the step was being taken in response to requests from various sections of society. He added that doctors from AIIMS would also be present during the examination.
The postmortem is expected to take around 90 minutes. Following this, Garg’s mortal remains will be brought back to Sarusajai Stadium for public homage, before being taken to Sonapur at around 10 am for the last rites.
Sarma also informed that the report of the postmortem conducted in Singapore on 20 September is still awaited.
Garg, 52, passed away in Singapore on 19 September after suffering seizures while swimming during a yacht trip. His death has triggered an outpouring of grief across Assam and the Northeast, with thousands preparing to bid him a final farewell.
