Guwahati: Employees of the Assam Government Printing Press in Bamunimaidam staged a protest on Saturday over non-payment of salaries, which they claim have been pending for nearly two years.
According to Printing Press staff members, salaries have not been released since September 2023, leaving around 160 employees in financial distress. They said repeated appeals to the authorities have not resolved the issue.
The employees staged a sit-in within the office premises, alleging that Director Mukut Phukan had ignored their demands. One of the employees said they had continued to work without salaries for two years, but the government had shown no concern for their hardships.
The workers have called on the Assam government to intervene and release the pending dues. They warned that the agitation would intensify if the matter remains unresolved.
