Prof Ambrish Singh from the Department of Chemistry at Nagaland University recently completed a visiting professorship at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), one of China’s premier scientific institutions. His visit, from 14 to 30 June 2025, was part of an academic exchange initiative aimed at strengthening international collaboration in chemical sciences.
During his engagement, Prof Singh delivered lectures to postgraduate students and faculty members on subjects including high-temperature corrosion inhibitors and modern techniques in corrosion monitoring. His presentations, which emphasised practical applications, were met with active participation and feedback, encouraging interest among early-career researchers.
In addition to lectures, Prof Singh conducted visits to multiple research laboratories across China, including facilities in Beijing, Linfen, and Jixian County in Shanxi Province. These visits focused on exchanging technical knowledge and exploring experimental approaches with Chinese researchers. Discussions ranged from the development of eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors to potential improvements in battery technology. In Jixian, an area known for its mineral resources and industrial activities, Prof Singh also explored opportunities for applying green chemistry in local manufacturing sectors.
A key moment of the visit was the formal exchange of academic credentials between Nagaland University and USTB, symbolising a step forward in academic cooperation between the two institutions. The exchange is expected to lead to further collaboration in joint research, funding prospects, and faculty mobility.
Prof Singh’s expertise in corrosion science, electrochemistry, and materials chemistry was acknowledged by faculty members at USTB, who highlighted the relevance of such partnerships in tackling global scientific challenges. As issues like corrosion and sustainable energy continue to attract research interest worldwide, academic exchanges of this nature are seen as important avenues for fostering cross-border understanding and collaborative problem-solving.
His recent visit to USTB follows a similar engagement last year at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where he served as Visiting Professor from 1 to 30 June 2024, interacting with doctoral and postgraduate students through lectures and seminars.
