In light of the ongoing monsoon and the heightened risk of flash floods and rising river levels, the administration of Dimapur has called upon all villages situated along river banks to enforce a ban on fishing, picnicking, and other water-related activities.

Issuing an official advisory on Saturday, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), urged all concerned village councils to implement the precautionary measures and maintain the restrictions until the end of the monsoon season.

“All the villages along the river banks and the concerned village councils are requested to prohibit the aforementioned activities till the end of this monsoon season,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

The DC has also requested the general public to refrain from going to the riverside for the said activities.

The directive comes as monsoon rains intensify across Dimapur, with several parts of the district already experiencing waterlogging. Major rivers, including the Dhansiri—which flows through the heart of Dimapur—and numerous streams have swollen and are currently flowing above normal levels.

There are concerns over public safety as well, especially in low-lying and river-adjacent areas of the district that are prone to sudden surges in water levels due to heavy rainfall.

The district administration has made it clear that the order is for strict compliance by all residents.

In case of any emergencies, residents are urged to contact the following helpline numbers:

State Emergency Operation Centre: 1070 (Toll free), 0370-2291120/22
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF): 9366819486 / 7005806182
DDMA Dimapur: 8415085131

At the time of writing this report, continuous heavy rainfall since Friday night and into Saturday morning has led to flooding and waterlogging in several areas in the district, including locations in Burma Camp, Vilhume Colony, and nearby localities.
