Dimapur: Nagaland Police have arrested a woman accused of severely abusing an 11-year-old girl in Pfutsero, following a coordinated manhunt that spanned multiple districts. The arrest marks a significant development in a case that has sparked widespread outrage across Pfutsero town and beyond.
According to a statement from Phek Police, a written complaint was received at Pfutsero Police Station on the evening of June 29, 2025, regarding the alleged abuse. The complaint reported an incident of “severe abuse” of the minor, allegedly by her foster mother, who is also her grandmother.
During the investigation, and with the aid of technical assistance, police established that the accused had moved from Pfutsero to Chumoukedima even before an FIR could be filed. However, the accused absconded from the Chumoukedima address in the early morning hours before police could reach her.
Through sustained efforts and inter-district coordination, the accused was eventually traced and apprehended by a team from Phek Police at Diphupar Police Station, with assistance from Chumoukedima and Dimapur Police. The accused has since been brought back to Phek district by the Phek Police team for further legal proceedings.
The case has been registered under Women PS Case No. 0002/25, invoking Sections 109 and 115 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The investigation is ongoing as per legal procedures, police said.
Authorities have confirmed that the minor victim is currently in a safe environment, receiving care, protection, and counseling at the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Phek. She is also undergoing medical treatment at the Phek District Hospital.
Phek Police have expressed their gratitude to civil society organizations and the public for their continued faith, trust, and support in the police’s efforts to maintain peace in the district. They also urged all citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement in the future.
The police further appealed to the public to refrain from any form of child abuse or cruelty, emphasizing that such actions are punishable under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
