The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has rescued a total of 27 individuals, including 22 minors, over a five-day period from 25 to 29 June 2025, in a coordinated effort to safeguard vulnerable passengers and prevent cases of human trafficking.
According to officials, the rescue operations were carried out across various railway stations within the NFR zone. The rescued individuals included three men and two women, in addition to the minors. All those rescued were handed over to relevant authorities, including Childline, NGOs, parents, and local police, after proper verification for necessary follow-up.
On 25 and 26 June, RPF teams based in Katihar, Kishanganj, and Samsi successfully rescued five runaway boys. These minors were subsequently transferred to the custody of Childline authorities to ensure their safety and care.
Another operation was conducted on 27 June at Kamakhya Railway Station, where the RPF unit located a runaway minor boy. He was handed over to Childline officials based in Kamakhya following the rescue.
At New Bongaigaon Railway Station, the RPF rescued five runaway girls along with one adult male on 28 June. The girls were placed under the care of Childline Bongaigaon, while the man was taken into custody at the RPF post for further questioning and legal procedures.
A further rescue took place at New Coochbehar Railway Station on 29 June, where an RPF team identified and recovered a missing man. He was reunited with his family after confirmation of his identity.
These operations form part of broader RPF efforts to enhance passenger security, especially for women and children. Under the “Meri Saheli” initiative, lady RPF personnel have been regularly deployed to assist and monitor women travelling alone. Their presence and proactive engagement have contributed to a safer travel environment for female passengers across the NFR zone.
