Longleng: The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) has raised serious concern over the prolonged non-functioning of three major educational institutions in Longleng district, calling it a case of “continued apathy” that has deprived countless students of essential technical and vocational education, forcing many to migrate elsewhere or abandon their studies altogether.
In a document shared with EastMojo, the PSC stated that following a three-day inspection, the student body found that the Polytechnic Institute, the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), and the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET)—all of which were completed years ago—remain “locked and abandoned.”
According to the PSC, the buildings have fallen into disrepair, overrun by climbers and weeds, with visible damage to walls, corridors, and roofs. The inspection revealed no signs of staff appointments, equipment installations, or academic preparation in any of the three institutions.
“In addition to infrastructural decay, there has been no appointment of staff, no provision of equipment, and no preparation to commence academic activities,” the PSC stated.
The Conference strongly condemned the situation, describing it as “persistent neglect” that not only squanders public resources but also undermines the region’s developmental aspirations.
The PSC demanded immediate clearing of vegetation and comprehensive repair of all infrastructure. It also called for a clear, time-bound plan to operationalize the three institutions, appointment of qualified staff across all faculties, provision of essential equipment and learning materials, allocation of operational funding, and the establishment of a monitoring mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability.
The student body warned that failure to address these issues within a reasonable timeframe would result in the launch of democratic agitation.
“Should these demands remain unaddressed within a reasonable time frame, the PSC will be compelled to initiate agitation to safeguard the rights and future of the student community,” it stated.
The Conference has urged the concerned authorities to “act decisively and without further delay.”
