Strong condemnation has emerged from multiple community-based organisations in Nagaland following reports of an alleged attempted sexual assault of a minor girl on May 31, 2025, in Dimapur.
The accused, identified as Inrietsi, a 70-year-old resident of Old Jalukie Sector B in Peren District, was reportedly absconding after the incident but was later apprehended from his native village, Ndunglwa, and taken into police custody.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with both the Jalukie Students’ Union Nagaland (JSUN) and the Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur (ZYOD) issuing separate public statements demanding immediate and stringent action.
In its statement, JSUN expressed deep shock, calling the incident a “heinous act” that has brought disrepute to Jalukie Village and the wider Peren District.
The Union urged the authorities to ensure a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation and called on citizens to denounce what it described as “barbaric behaviour.” JSUN affirmed its solidarity with the victim and her family, and appealed to the community to stand united in creating a safe, just, and respectful environment for all.
Echoing similar sentiments, the Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur condemned the act in the strongest terms, describing the accused as a “habitual offender with a troubling history of similar crimes,” making this incident even more alarming.
The ZYOD urged the law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive action against the accused, ensuring that he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Additionally, it demanded comprehensive support, protection, and rehabilitation for the minor victim involved in this distressing case.
“It is imperative that justice is served promptly and with the utmost severity, to establish a clear precedent that crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in our society,” it stated.
Both organisations stressed the need to uphold the rule of law and safeguard the dignity and safety of children in the state.
