CD Projekt Red has released a new gameplay video showcasing a “tech demo” for The Witcher 4, offering an early look at how the upcoming role-playing game might appear. The footage was shared during the recent State of Unreal event and is not representative of the final version of the game.
The Witcher 4, announced in late 2024, is currently in development and is not expected to be released before 2027. The game will follow The Witcher 3 and is set in the northern regions of the Continent. Ciri, a central character in the previous titles, is confirmed as the protagonist.
The nine-minute demo video features Ciri riding her horse, Kelpie, through natural landscapes and arriving in the region of Kovir. The footage includes scenes of her speaking with a contractor and navigating a town populated with active non-player characters (NPCs). These NPCs are shown performing a range of tasks including trading, interacting with others, and moving through the environment.
The demo also highlights some of the graphical features enabled by Unreal Engine 5, such as dense vegetation and environmental details. While the areas shown in the footage suggest linear movement through some sections, developers have stated that the video is only a technical demonstration. Final content, layout, and gameplay may differ in the finished product.
The Witcher 4 is one of several Witcher-related projects currently in progress at CD Projekt Red. Further updates on its development and release timeline are expected in the coming years.
