Kohima: The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), expressing strong condemnation over the deteriorating condition of the Kohima–Jessami Road (Package 2) and alleged negligence by both NHIDCL and EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infrastructure Project Pvt. Ltd.
In a letter addressed to the Executive Director of NHIDCL’s Regional Office in Kohima, the Union cited a series of official communications and seven separate inspections, noting that despite repeated appeals since October 2024, no significant progress has been made on the road project.
With the onset of the monsoon season drawing near, CSU warned that the worsening condition of the road poses a serious threat to commuters and reflects a gross disregard for public welfare and infrastructure responsibility.
The Union demanded immediate repair of potholes, clearance of landslide debris and road blockages, proper drainage construction, and implementation of safety measures to address rockfalls and landslides.
The Union stated that failure to act within the stipulated timeframe would compel it to initiate stricter forms of protest and hold the concerned agencies fully responsible.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety and development, CSU declared it would not remain a silent spectator to what it termed a prolonged injustice and institutional failure.
