Imphal: After a two-year hiatus, the much-awaited 5th edition of the Shirui Lily Festival is set to return and will be celebrated from May 20 to 24, 2025, in Ukhrul district. This will be the first state-level festival to be held in Manipur since violence erupted in May 2023.
Organised annually by the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur, the Shirui Lily Festival aims to create awareness about the endangered Shirui Lily flower and promote sustainable tourism in the region.
The festival honours the state flower, the Shirui Lily (Lilium mackliniae), which blooms exclusively at Shirui Kashong (Shirui Peak) in Shirui village, approximately 15 km from Ukhrul town. The rare flower blooms from late May to mid-June, drawing visitors from across the state and beyond.
Governor Ajay Bhalla recently chaired the first organising committee meeting at Raj Bhavan to oversee preparations for the festival. Key aspects such as transportation, security, infrastructure, hospitality, and cultural events were discussed to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
“We are absolutely thrilled to announce that the 5th Edition of the Shirui Lily Festival will be held from 20th to 24th May 2025 in the scenic hill town of Ukhrul, Manipur,” said an official statement.
The statement added that the festival, after a two-year pause, returns with renewed energy, celebrating not just the rare and enchanting Shirui Lily — found only in the Shirui Hills — but also the rich culture, music, art, and heritage of Manipur.
“From traditional dances and folk music to rock concerts, indigenous crafts, adventure sports, and local cuisines — there’s something for everyone at this festival of colours and culture. Let’s come together to celebrate the spirit of unity, the beauty of nature, and the pride of our Shirui Lily,” it added.
