Mizoram to witness first Aizawl Int'l Half Marathon on April 26

Aizawl: In a move to promote sports, youth empowerment, and regional pride, Mizoram is set to host the inaugural Aizawl International Half Marathon (AIHM) on April 26, 2025. The event, a first of its kind in the state, is being jointly organised by the Government of Mizoram and Innovations India, aiming to spotlight the Northeast on the global athletics stage.

The marathon is more than a sporting event — it’s a step toward the development of Mizoram and the Northeast, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Developing Northeast & Nation Building.”

Accredited by the Athletics Federation of India, and backed by key organisations such as the Sports Authority of India, NF Railway, Mizoram Athletic Association, and several government departments, PSUs, and private sponsors, the event promises to be a grand affair.

Officials have confirmed that over 1,000 runners from across India and abroad are expected to participate in the event ,with elite athletes from Kenya and Vietnam having already confirmed their participation. They also said that Indian cities such as Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Indore, Varanasi, Haridwar, Shillong, Itanagar, Dimapur, Ayodhya, Alwar, Lakhimpur have sent in registrations. Participants from Railways and Services are also expected to compete.

Organisers said they hope that the Aizawl International Half Marathon will evolve into an annual sporting tradition, serving as a launchpad for young athletes from the region to showcase their talent on national and international platforms.
