Aizawl: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the apex student body in Mizoram, has appealed to the public to refrain from spreading hate speech or engaging in actions that could harm the spirit of brotherhood among the Zo communities.

The statement specifically referred to refugees from Myanmar and internally displaced persons from Manipur who are currently taking shelter in the state.

In a meeting held at the MZP General Headquarters on April 8, 2025, chaired by President H. Lalthianghlima, the members emphasized that offering refuge to those fleeing conflict and atrocities is both a Mizo and Christian value.

“As Mizoram is the homeland of the Zo people, we are fortunate that those in need of safety have turned to us,” they stated.

Acknowledging the growing number of refugees and displaced persons, the members noted that while there may be concerns or frustrations, any wrongdoing by individuals among them should be addressed through legal channels—not through generalizations or hate.

They condemned the spread of false information and hateful narratives aimed at defaming refugees, calling such actions harmful to Zo solidarity. “It is unfortunate that some individuals are attempting to tarnish the image of those seeking refuge, which poses a threat to our unity,” the student leaders said.

The MZP also recommended the establishment of proper laws and regulations for the care and management of refugees and displaced persons, to ensure continued harmony and understanding within the community.
