Kohima: Barak Football Club made history by winning the first edition of the Nagaland Super League (NSL) title with a dominant 3-1 victory over Longterok Football Club during the finale match at Chümoukedima Football Stadium.
The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw, with both teams locked in a tense battle. In the 52nd minute, Mangkholen of Barak FC broke the deadlock, putting his team ahead. Toka extended the lead in the 65th minute with a precise finish, giving Barak FC a comfortable cushion.
In the final minutes, Lun Kuki sealed the victory with a third goal, ensuring Barak FC’s clear triumph. Longterok’s captain Assumi managed a late consolation goal in stoppage time.
Barak FC’s Kenumdi was awarded Man of the Match for his stellar performance, playing a crucial role in his team’s success.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his appreciation on X, mentioning that the Nagaland Super League finals had been a celebration of talent, teamwork, and determination. He congratulated the Nagaland Olympic Association and the Nagaland Football Association for their efforts and thanked the All India Football Federation for their support.
Deputy CM Y. Patton also shared his excitement, describing the NSL as the biggest football event in Nagaland to date. He remarked that the atmosphere had been electrifying, reflecting the state’s deep passion for football.
Congratulating Barak FC on their victory, he added that the tournament had been more than just a competition, calling it the beginning of a movement for Nagaland football. He further emphasised that the NSL had paved the way for youth empowerment and sporting excellence while commending the organizers, volunteers, and fans for making the event a success.
“The NSL has marked the beginning of a new era for football in the state,” Patton added.
