Aizawl: The Mizo National Front (MNF) General Headquarters has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of the Vairengte-Sairang highway, Mizoram’s primary route for goods transportation.

The party has urged the state government to expedite necessary repairs to ensure the safety and smooth movement of trucks.

The Mizoram Truck Owners’ Association (MTOA) and Mizoram Truck Drivers’ Association (MTDA) have announced their decision to stop using the highway starting January 23, 2025, citing severe damage and unsafe conditions.

Responding to their concerns, the MNF criticized the state government’s inaction and called for immediate measures to address the issue.

Despite repeated assurances from the PWD Minister about the availability of funds for repairs, the MNF noted that no substantial progress has been made on this vital highway.

On January 20, 2025, the Public Works Department (PWD) initiated steps to begin repairs, but the MNF argued that the delayed response highlights the government’s lack of urgency in addressing critical infrastructure problems.

The MNF has called on the government, led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, to take decisive action.

They demanded transparent utilisation of road development funds and immediate measures to restore the highway to a safe condition for truck movement. Additionally, the party urged the government to prioritize infrastructure development to prevent further disruptions to the state’s essential supply chain.
