Renowned British actor Bernard Hill, known for his memorable supporting roles in the iconic films ‘Titanic‘ and ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ trilogy, has passed away at the age of 79, as confirmed by his agent, Lou Coulson.
Hill’s portrayal of Captain Edward Smith in the Oscar-winning 1997 epic romance ‘Titanic‘ remains one of his most notable performances, leaving a lasting impression on audiences worldwide. He further gained international recognition for his portrayal of Theoden, King of Rohan, in two of the three ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ films directed by Peter Jackson.
Hill’s career spanned several decades, with his early breakthrough coming in the BBC’s acclaimed 1982 drama ‘Boys from the Blackstuff‘. The series, which won numerous awards, is still regarded as one of the finest examples of its genre from that era.
