Kia will commence bookings for its sub-4m compact SUV, the Syros, in India from January 3, 2025. The Syros, named after a Greek island, will compete against popular models like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV 3XO. The Syros is Kia’s first compact SUV with ‘tall boy’ styling and will certainly get people talking.
The Syros boasts a distinctive design, featuring vertical headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and prominent side cladding. The top-spec variant will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels and feature flush door handles. At the rear, L-shaped Starlamp LED tail lamps flank the rear windshield, accompanied by a shark fin antenna and an integrated spoiler.
Inside, the Syros offers a modern cabin with a two-spoke steering wheel reminiscent of the Kia EV6. A 30-inch digital display dominates the dashboard, comprising two screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The cabin features 64-color ambient lighting, automatic climate control, a wireless charger, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and OTA updates.
Further enhancing its appeal, the Syros comes equipped with a 360-degree view camera, a panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Kia emphasizes the “lounge-inspired” interiors, with both rows of seats featuring ventilation and a 60:40 split for the rear seats. The Kia Syros features Level 2 ADAS with 16 autonomous functions.
Powering the Syros will be a choice of two engines: a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 118bhp and 172Nm of torque, or a 1.5-litre diesel engine with VGT, generating 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 7-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual for the turbo-petrol engine, while the diesel engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The turbo petrol can be mated to a 7-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual for the first time, previously only available with Kia’s iMT or a DCT.
Bookings for the Kia Syros will commence from January 3, 2025, with prices expected to be announced closer to the launch date.
