Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Maisnam Riten Kumar Singh, Executive Director and Regional Officer of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in Guwahati, in connection with an alleged Rs 10 lakh bribery case, officials said on Wednesday.

As per reports, searches carried out at Singh’s premises led to the recovery of Rs 2.62 crore in cash and documents related to nine landed properties and 20 apartments owned by him and his family members across the country.

The agency also seized documents related to the purchase of several high-end vehicles in Singh’s name.

Investigators alleged that Singh, posted at NHIDCL’s regional office in Guwahati, demanded the bribe from a private company in exchange for granting a favourable extension of time (EOT) and issuing a completion certificate for the company’s project involving the four-laning of National Highway-37 between Demow and End of Moran Bypass in Assam, along with other related contracts.

The CBI has also arrested Binod Kumar Jain, a representative of the Kolkata-based company Mohan Lal Jain, in connection with the case.

Searches were reportedly conducted at seven office and residential premises of the accused persons at different locations across India. Verification of the immovable and movable properties belonging to the accused public servant is underway.

Both Singh and Jain were to be produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Guwahati later in the day, the agency said.
