A state-level workshop, titled “Deriving Maximum Impact Out of Aadhaar”, was organised by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Regional Office, Guwahati, on 5 November at Vivanta, Guwahati. This workshop aimed to advance the role of Aadhaar in improving governance, welfare, and service delivery across North Eastern states, bringing together officials from Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Sikkim.
Cmde Dhiraj Sareen, Deputy Director General of UIDAI, inaugurated the workshop and emphasised Aadhaar’s role as a transformative tool, particularly for inclusive growth and empowerment. He noted that since its inception in 2009, Aadhaar has provided a unique, verifiable identity for every individual in India, ensuring critical access to government services and benefits, especially for marginalised communities. Highlighting Aadhaar-based innovations like the Attendance System, land registration using Aadhaar Authentication, and the issuance of Digital Life Certificates for pensioners, he pointed to these systems’ capacity to streamline administrative processes and bolster efficient governance.
He applauded the Aadhaar adoption efforts in the North Eastern states, assuring UIDAI’s ongoing support in enhancing “Ease of Living” for citizens in the region.
Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS, Chief Secretary of Assam, delivered remarks on Aadhaar’s crucial role in Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, commending UIDAI’s efforts in organising the workshop and encouraging participants to explore innovative uses of Aadhaar to improve public service delivery and cut through administrative delays.
Additionally, M.S. Manivannan, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of GAD, Assam, shared insights into Assam’s success in boosting Aadhaar enrolment in remote and underserved areas. He described the state’s special enrolment camps and ongoing efforts to increase Aadhaar saturation, stressing how Assam’s adoption of the Aadhaar Authentication platform has facilitated social welfare distribution through various state departments.
Dr. Sandeep R. Rathod, IAS, Secretary of the Rural Development Department, Tripura, outlined Tripura’s Aadhaar enrolment and authentication achievements, noting the effective implementation of Aadhaar-based biometric authentication for ration distribution and government attendance tracking, which has contributed to improved efficiency in service delivery.
