Aishi Prisha Borah, a 14-year-old student innovator from Jorhat in Assam, has been conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for excellence in Science and Technology, recognising her work on sustainable and practical scientific solutions.
Borah is among 20 children from 18 states and Union Territories who received the national award from the President of India on Tuesday. The awards were presented in the presence of the Union Minister for Women and Child Development and the Minister of State for the same department.
Borah has worked on projects related to natural farming practices, newspaper mulching, and the development of a machine to manufacture pencils from newspaper waste. Her projects focus on reuse of materials and environmentally sustainable methods. She has represented her school and the region at several platforms, including the Regional Level State Science Exhibition, the Rashtriya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshini in New Delhi, and the National Children’s Science Congress held in Ahmedabad.

Her earlier recognitions include the INSPIRE MANAK State Award in 2022 and the Dinanath Pandey Silver Innovator Award at the Innovation Festival 2025. These efforts contributed to her selection for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar in the Science and Technology category.
The award ceremony also recognised Esther Lalduhawmi Hnamte, a nine-year-old singer from Lunglei in Mizoram, for excellence in Art and Culture. Hnamte has gained national attention for her patriotic song performances, which together have crossed more than 20 million views on YouTube and attracted over 1.13 million subscribers. She performed at the opening ceremony of the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav in Delhi in December 2024 in the presence of the Prime Minister.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is given annually to children for achievements in fields such as science and technology, art and culture, sports, bravery and social service.
