Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Assam on December 20 and 21, with a packed schedule that includes political engagements, infrastructure inaugurations and public programmes, ahead of the state assembly elections due next year.
As per reports, on December 20, the Prime Minister will interact with BJP MPs and MLAs from poll-bound Assam at the party headquarters in Guwahati. A 25-minute interaction is reportedly scheduled with legislators. This will be PM Modi’s first visit to the newly constructed BJP state office, and is being seen as a crucial political engagement in the run-up to the elections.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. The terminal has been built at a cost of around ₹4,000 crore. Following the inauguration, he is scheduled to address a public rally near the airport, where preparations are currently underway.
After the rally, the Prime Minister will proceed to the BJP state headquarters to interact with party leaders and workers from across Assam.
On December 21, PM Modi will visit the river terminal on the Brahmaputra in Guwahati, from where he will board the Charaideo vessel. He will then participate in the ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ programme, interacting with around 25–30 students.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will also pay homage to the 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement at Swahid Smarak in Boragaon.
Later the same day, PM Modi will travel to Dibrugarh to lay the foundation stone of the Namrup-IV Ammonia-Urea project, a key industrial initiative for the state.
