Guwahati: More than 100 educators from 56 schools across Assam and Meghalaya gathered in Guwahati on Thursday to explore modern, tech-enabled approaches to environmental learning at the Educators’ Conclave 2025, organised by WWF-India. Held at Hotel Gateway Grandeur, the event aimed to equip teachers with practical tools, digital resources and new ideas to strengthen environmental education in classrooms.
The conclave, organised under WWF-India’s digital resource platform One Planet Academy, focused on preparing students for a rapidly changing world where environmental issues increasingly shape everyday life. With global frameworks such as the SDGs and the Global Biodiversity Framework targeting 2030 goals, the event’s theme—Raising Generation 30—highlighted the urgency of empowering today’s learners.
Welcoming the participants, WWF-India Assam and Arunachal Pradesh State Director Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya said the presence of educators reflected a collective commitment to shaping students who can lead transformative environmental change. “We must equip young people with the tools and inspiration to drive a future where humans live in harmony with nature,” she said.
The opening session by Dr. Narayan Sharma of Cotton University explored how schools can prepare students for the future they will inherit, while educationist Mita Nangia Goswami introduced teachers to the One Planet Academy platform, demonstrating how digital tools can make environmental learning interactive and student-friendly.
A hands-on workshop led by Neha Raghav, Director of Environment Education at WWF-India, encouraged teachers to embed environmental themes and local issues into everyday lessons. Educators collaborated to design activities that nurture curiosity, confidence and care for the planet.
WWF Assam Advisory Board members Prof. Ranjit Choudhury and M.C. Malakar also attended the event.
A key highlight was the launch of the One Planet Academy Awards, which will recognise innovative efforts by schools and teachers to integrate sustainability into education. Chief Guest Krishna Barua, Managing Director of Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan, urged teachers to act as catalysts in shaping environmentally conscious students. “Embrace the new to raise the new generation,” she said.
The conclave concluded with a reflection session where participants shared feedback and discussed how they would implement new strategies in their classrooms.
