Assam resident escapes kidnappers, rescued by West Garo Hills Police

Tura: Amit Kumar Singha, an Assam resident, managed to escape from his kidnappers after they abandoned him following an extensive search operation in the Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division. He was later rescued by the West Garo Hills (WGH) district police.

According to police sources, Singha was approached by two individuals at the Khanapara taxi stand who requested a ride to Singimari in South Salmara, Assam. Singha, a resident of Nityanandpur in Hailakandi, Assam, was kidnapped eight days ago, prompting a case to be registered in Dispur (PS C/No. 1058 U/S 140(2)/308(4) BNS).

Reports indicate that on the day of his abduction, Singha picked up the two individuals at 2:30 PM. They communicated in Bengali and stopped at an Azara petrol pump for refueling.

Shortly after, three more individuals joined them, and Singha was forcibly taken to an unknown location where a white Maruti Alto K10 (BR No. AS 01BB 5510) was waiting, carrying three additional occupants believed to be from Garo Hills.

After the case was registered, police began their investigation, triangulating Singha’s location to the Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division.

“He was shifted to the Alto and the other vehicle followed. He was kept somewhere in the jungle for around 7-8 days (in Garo Hills) but yesterday he heard the kidnappers were taking about police presence in the area and today morning, the victim finding no one around escaped and later was rescued by OC Damal Asim PS from the Nokma’ s residence at Baljek Aduma where he had taken up shelter,” informed acting superintendent of police of WGH, Jerry Marak.

“We received information on the presence of the kidnapping gang from Assam police sources as well as the victim’s following which a combing operation was launched in various locations. When the kidnappers heard about police roaming the area, they abandoned the victim and ran off. When he saw no one guarding him, the victim managed to flee from the area and reached the nearest village to seek shelter. He was rescued from there,” informed the SP.

While no arrests have been made yet, police are actively searching for the gang, which appears to consist of individuals from both Assam and Meghalaya.
