Guwahati: Tensions escalated at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati in the wake of a student’s death. The protests have led to the resignation of the Dean of Academic Affairs, KV Krishna, and heightened demands for further administrative changes.
The unrest began after the death of a student, who was found in his room at Brahmaputra Hostel on Monday morning.
The student’s death has sparked widespread outrage and prompted the campus community to take action. In response, students organised a candlelight vigil on Tuesday to mourn their peer and to protest against what they perceive as systemic issues within the institution.
The protests have centered on grievances over the administration’s handling of mental health concerns and the high academic pressures faced by students. Demonstrators have also called for the resignation of Assistant Professor Rajkumar Thummer.
