Dudhnoi: A 30-year-old man from Meghalaya was apprehended by vigilant locals in the Damra market area of Dudhnoi town today after he attempted to use counterfeit Indian currency notes to purchase betel nuts.
The accused, Goblin Momin, a resident of East Garo Hills district in Meghalaya, was found carrying fake 500-rupee notes with a staggering face value of Rs 1,41,000. Alert vendors at the market noticed the suspicious notes and immediately alerted the local Police.
Upon being detained by the public, Momin was swiftly handed over to the Damra Police Station. During the initial investigation, Police recovered the large stash of counterfeit 500-rupee notes from Momin’s possession.

According to the Police, further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the fake currency and any potential involvement of a larger counterfeit currency racket operating in the region.
Momin has been arrested and appropriate legal action will be initiated against him under relevant sections of the IPC regarding the possession and circulation of counterfeit currency.
