Assam: TRAI Kolkata educates students on telecom safeguards

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has organised a consumer outreach programme in Kolkata to educate them about the various initiatives taken by the government to safeguard their interests.

The programme was aimed at students of Assam at Majuli College, Kamalabari. The event was organised by the regional office of TRAI Kolkata.

It was attended by officials from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) Assam, the State government, telecom service providers BSNL and consumer advocacy groups. The programme was started with an address by the Principal of Majuli College, Dr Debajit Saikia.

The chief guest of the programme was Amit Ghosal, Joint Advisor at TRAI Kolkata. He informed that the programme was part of TRAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance awareness among telecom customers about the regulatory provisions aimed at safeguarding their interests.

Ghosal also highlighted the recent technical advancements in the communication sector and stressed the importance of public engagement in these developments. In his address, the Principal of Majuli College highlighted the issues faced by students and local residents in accessing telecom networks.

General Manager of BSNL Jorhat SSA Ajay Pal Singh informed the audience about the various ongoing projects by BSNL. Bitul Chetia, Additional SP Cybercrime, delivered a presentation on cybercrime and related frauds.

TRAI Regional Office Senior Research Officer Debjjit Saha informed the customers about the complaint redressal mechanism available to them. The programme also included interactive sessions with consumers, allowing them to voice their concerns and share their experiences.
