Guwahati: As many as two persons lost their lives and ten others suffered injuries after a dispute over a piece of land turned ugly on Thursday. The shocking incident unfolded in the Kalain area of Assam’s Cachar district.
Sources reported that the injured persons were swiftly transported to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for urgent medical attention.
However, tensions escalated when the injured were brought to the Kalain Hospital for preliminary treatment, triggering another violent clash between the two factions within the hospital premises. Law enforcement authorities swiftly intervened to restore order.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirmed the deployment of police personnel to the area and assured that the situation has been brought under control.
“We have apprehended seven suspects in connection with the incident, which is believed to have stemmed from a land dispute. Investigations are currently underway,” Assam Tribune quoted the SP as saying.
Authorities are actively engaged in probing the matter further to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the clash and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
