Guwahati: In a significant judgment, the district court in Assam’s Morigaon has convicted two accused persons in connection with case pertaining to child marriage. While one of the convicts was sentenced to life imprisonment, the other convict was awarded 20 years of jail.
According to available information, the convict Amir Ali, has been sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 120(B) and 376DA of Indian Penal Code, section 6 of the POCSO Act and section 9/10/11 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
On the other hand, Ferdus Alom, another convict in the case, has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Additional Sessions Judge cum Special Judge (POCSO) in Morigaon.
During the trial proceedings, an individual named Merajul Islam was implicated for attempting to influence the outcome. Islam reportedly threatened the victim and other witnesses to testify in favor of the accused and even offered bribes.
