Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated, laid foundations, and performed bhumi pujan of projects worth Rs. 1,208 crore in Kamrup Metro district on Monday.
The highlights of the projects include:
- The Elevated South Bank Corridor of Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge, built at a cost of Rs. 326.01 crore, is a tree-lane flyover with two rotaries. It has special noise barriers to control pollution, making it the first of its kind in the state. The corridor spans 1.2 km with a width of 15.2 m from Bhoothnath to Machkhowa.
- The 100-bed Azara District Hospital, with a project cost of Rs. 116 crore, will have three operation theatres and 14 essential healthcare facilities, including critical care and radiology.
- The upgradation of the existing 2-lane road to a 4-lane road connecting LGBI Airport from VIP Junction to Dharapur Junction, at a cost of Rs. 358 crore, will involve the construction of a 9 KM road with roundabouts at VIP junction SoS junction and Garal junction.
- The Trumpet Interchange at Gauripur T Junction, a 5.482 KM project with a budgetary expenditure of Rs. 408 crore, aims to improve connectivity and reduce accidents and commute time.
Speaking at the event, Sarma highlighted the ambitious project of constructing a 6-lane extra-dosed PSC Bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati at a cost of Rs. 2608.69 crore. The project, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 9, 2019, commenced on August 14, 2019. Sarma emphasized that the inauguration of the elevated corridor would significantly reduce traffic congestion near Bharalumukh.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the recent infrastructural developments in Guwahati, including the dedication of the Neelachal Flyover, Shraddhanjali Flyover, Dispur Super market Flyover, and the extension of Ganeshguri Flyover, which have improved traffic movement in the city. He further highlighted the ongoing construction of flyovers at Kalapahar and from Dighali Pukhuri to Bamunimaidan, which will transform traffic movement in the city. Sarma also mentioned the upcoming elevated corridor from Pandu to Kamakhya Temple over the Brahmaputra, which is in the pipeline.
