Swachhata Green Leaf Rating system launched in Kaziranga

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has successfully implemented the ‘Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System’ in Kaziranga, Assam, intending to promote sustainable tourism practices within the protected area.

The rating system was inaugurated by Vini Mahajan, Secretary, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, in the presence of dignitaries from Central and State governments and different hotel, resort, and homestay owners rendering their services to the tourists at the Kaziranga National Park.

Under the ‘Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System’, hotels, resorts, and homestays will self-assess their existing sanitation-related infrastructure and submit their ratings to the local administration. The district administration will then verify the details and certify 1, 3, and 5 Green Leaf ratings to these hotels and resort owners based on marks obtained by them.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has emphasised the need for awareness among people about the importance of proper faecal sludge management, solid waste, and greywater management.

The government hopes the ‘Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System’ will motivate hotel and resort owners to improve their sanitation facilities and promote sustainable tourism practices in the region.
