Kamrup: The Northeast is poised to become the leader in the country for natural rubber production. The Central Rubber Board (CRB) has initiated a special scheme to incentivise farmers in Assam, Meghalaya, and other North Eastern states to cultivate rubber.

A rubber nursery spanning about 40 hectares of land in Umshru-Paham village in Meghalaya, near West Guwahati, has been established as part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ project under the Modi government.

The nursery recently received a visit from Anshuman Singhania, Chairman of the Automotive Tire Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA) and Vice Chairman of JK TYRE company.

During his visit on Thursday, Singhania familiarised himself with the various stages of rubber production, starting from the cultivation of rubber tree seedlings at the rubber nursery managed by Omega Nursery under the guidance of the Central Rubber Board. Accompanying Singhania were Rajiv Budhraj, Director General of ATMA, Dr. Ashritha, Project Coordinator, and V. A. Shakeer, Commissioner, Rubber Board.

After inspecting the mega project, Singhania expressed that every member company of ‘ATMA’ is committed to providing full cooperation in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India.

Once the rubber production process reaches its full potential, the ATMA plans to invest funds in establishing rubber-related industries in Assam and neighboring states. Singhania emphasised the need for collaboration with state governments, local administrations, and the public to achieve this goal. He anticipated that the establishment of industries for the production of various products, including rubber and tires, would create self-employment opportunities for thousands of people, fostering socio-economic development in the region.

The ATMA is set to organise a two-day special program at Borjhar in Guwahati starting Friday. The event, titled the Indian Natural Rubber Organization for Assisted Development (INROAD) Project, will feature the participation of representatives from the country’s largest tire companies and officials from the Rubber Board.

The program aims to showcase the progress and various aspects of natural rubber production in the Northeast.
