Guwahati: Ministry of Civil Aviation announced on Monday that Guwahati in Assam will soon be connected with eight cities across Southeast Asian countries along with Agartala and Imphal.
The flights will operate on Agartala-Dhaka, Agartala-Chittagong, Guwahati-Bangkok, Guwahati-Kathmandu, Guwahati-Yangon, Guwahati-Hanoi, Imphal-Mandalay, Imphal-Bangkok and Imphal-Kunming under the Ministry’s UDAN scheme.
Meanwhile, services along the Agartala-Dhaka and Agartala-Chittagong international routes are expected to begin within the next six months, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) will soon float tenders inviting expression of interest from private airlines wishing to operate along the routes.
Earlier on Saturday, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had announced that Agartala will be connected with Dhaka and Chittagong cities of Bangladesh through flights in his quote retweet of the announcement made by the Union Ministry.
“Finally, MBB Airport in Agartala is now set to have international flight service with Dhaka & Chittagong. My heartfelt thanks to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji & Civil Aviation Minister Shri @JM_Scindia ji for this initiative to fulfill the dream of the people of Tripura,” Deb tweeted.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation intends to connect India’s smaller cities directly to key foreign destinations in the neighbourhood under its Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme.
