Hailakandi: Mumbai Police, in cooperation with Assam’s Hailakandi police, nabbed an alleged rape accused from the Dhonipur village in Hailakandi district.
The accused, identified as Sajir Ahmed Majumder (20), is being taken back to Mumbai by the Mumbai crime branch that arrived on Monday.
The accused is a resident of Hailakandi and reportedly escaped from Mumbai last year after committing the crime in Colaba, Mumbai.
“Rape accused in a case of Colaba, Mumbai, absconded and took shelter in Dhonipur, Lala area of Hailakandi district. OC Lala PS, on request from Mumbai Police, immediately acted and apprehended the accused and handed him over to Mumbai Police following due process” Hailakandi Police wrote over Facebook.
According to Mumbai Crime Branch Deputy Inspector Pradeep Kumar, a woman from South Mumbai complained to Colaba police station, last year, accusing Sajir Ahmed of rape. The accused worked in a business establishment in Mumbai before he fled and took shelter here at his residence.
“We were intimidated by the Maharashtra police about the accused being residing here at Dhonipur village under Lala PS. We immediately jumped to action and picked him up. Now we are handing over him to Maharashtra police for further proceedings” said Lala Police.
