Assam forest authorities at the Raimona National Park in Kokrajhar district under the Bodoland Territorial Region spotted a tiger, sparking joy among people.
The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Pramod Boro took to Twitter to share the news along with the image of the tiger in the National Park.
“Overjoyed to inform that a tiger was spotted at Raimona National Park by forest authorities yesterday,” he wrote on January 24. “I am grateful to Hon’ble CM Dr. @himantabiswa for declaring Raimona as the 6th National Park in Assam,” Boro added.
Retweeting the same, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote “What a sight to behold! Glad to see our national animal making a comeback in Raimona. Will do more to conserve the big cats in our forests.”
The Raimona Reserve Forest was declared as Assam’s sixth National Park last year on June 5 on the occasion of World Environment Day, to preserve the region’s rich flora and fauna which include the Golden Langurs, Bengal tigers and clouded leopards, among others.
