GUWAHATI: Assam government will complete 100 percent Covid-19 vaccination of all the eligible population before November 27.
Inoculation of around 10 lakh people above 18 years of age who are yet to take the first dose of the Covid vaccine will be completed within this period, state health minister Keshab Mahanta said.
The state health department has also taken up a “Ghore Ghore Podarpon” programme from November 8, in which all ministers, including the chief minister, chief secretary deputy commissioners, superidents of police, and all government officials have to visit at least one polling station to monitor the vaccination drive, Mahanta said.
In the first phase from November 8-21, a team comprising of ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, Gaon Burah, Village Defence Party (VDP) will visit every household under specified polling station area and conduct a survey on the vaccination status of every household, the minister said.
In the second phase from November 22-27, the chief minister, all other ministers, MLAs, MPs, chief secretary, and all other civil and police officials will attend at least one polling station to ascertain 100 percent vaccination.
The principal secretary of the state health and family welfare department has written a letter to all deputy commissioners of all districts and principal secretaries of autonomous councils to gear up to cover 100 percent vaccination.
Till November 7, the state had completed 2,89,32,622 vaccinations, with 2,02,91,039 first and 86,41,583 second doses.
This is almost 87 percent of the target for the first dose and 37 percent for the second dose against the targets given by the Union government.
The ministry of health & family welfare had communicated the approximate targeted population for Assam as 2.31 crore in January 2021 and later updated it to 2.36 crore in August 2021.
The districts have undertaken massive house-to-house surveys covering all villages and urban areas utilizing the service of more than 32,000 ASHA workers, 2,000 ASHA supervisors, and approximately 15,000 healthcare workers, including ANMs, Multi-Purpose Workers, and surveillance workers, as per their location.
The voter’s list for the 2021 assembly elections was studied with the help of booth-level officers (BLOs) for 34,000 plus polling stations across the state.
Around 2.13 crore people are eligible for vaccination in the state. Against this surveyed target, the state has achieved almost 95 percent saturation of the first dose.
