GUWAHATI: Sleuths of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police on Tuesday night arrested seven other persons, including two middlemen in connection with fake TET certificate case in the state, a senior official of CID informed here
With this, the total number of persons arrested in the cases has gone up to 28. Earlier, the CID has arrested some 21 others from various places in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri districts on Monday in the same case.
It was revealed that more than 100 teachers have been working in different districts of the state on the basis of fake TET certificate.
On the basis of preliminary report conducted by the state education department, the CID has registered a case No 10/2021 under sections 120B/ 420/461 and 471 of Indian Panel Conde in the last wee.
“14 more teachers are under scanner. They are likely to be arrested shortly,” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday.
Senior officials continued interrogation of the arrested persons, sources said.
The arrested persons have been produced before the court after medical examination and taken in the police custody for further investigation.
“During interrogation, the names of few middlemen have come on record, out of which two have been traced and are being interrogated. A detailed verification of the forged certificates with the TET database in Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), Guwahati has been conducted. The investigation is going on in full swing by the special investigation team of CID,” said sources.
“We received information about 36 TET teachers in Assam who were serving in the government schools on the basis of fake documents. The operation is on and I am sure we will be able to arrest all of them very soon,” the chief minister said.
The chief minister also mentioned that a nexus of fake degree and certificate course providers in Assam might also come to light after the arrests.
The chief minister had directed the CID to register the case following a complaint that the teachers had submitted forged TET certificates to the director of education, Kokrajhar in BTR to get the jobs, a statement issued by the police department said on Monday.
A TET certificate is mandatory for the appointment of teachers in government schools.
The investigation conducted so far revealed that forged TET certificates were submitted as if the accused qualified even though they failed in the test, in some cases fake roll numbers have been used, and in some other cases roll numbers of successful candidates were misused by unsuccessful candidates for generating forged certificates, the statement added.
