More details are slowly emerging about the death of the three Kerala residents found dead in a hotel in Ziro.
The three Kerala residents have been identified as Arya of Melethumele, Vattiyurkavu; her friend Devi of Moonnamoodu, Vattiyurkavu, and her husband Naveen Thomas of Meenadom in Kottayam.
According to The Hindu, Arya, who used to teach French at a private school in the city, was reported to have gone missing on March 26. A case was registered by the Vattiyurkavu police the next day on the basis of a complaint by her parents.
The police’s efforts to trace the location of Arya’s mobile phone turned futile after the device was switched off near Parottukonam. However, it later came to light that Arya had gone to Guwahati with her close friend Devi, who had taught German in the same school until a few years ago, and Naveen, who used to run a bakery. The police had detected transactions made to book the flight tickets using the mobile phone.
Soon, Thiruvananthapuram City police alerted the Arunachal Pradesh police, and the latter’s subsequent search led them to the scene of the deaths.
While Nair was found dead on the bed with her wrist cut, Devi was found dead on the floor with cut marks on her neck and wrist. Thomas’s body was found in the bathroom with a cut mark on his wrist. It was revealed that Thomas and Devi were married.
Lower Subansiri Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra said the hotel authorities alerted the police about the Ziro incident at around 10 am on Tuesday after the guests were not seen since April 1.
Upon investigation, the bodies were discovered in a room in Ziro, which was locked from the inside and had to be forcibly opened.
“A dedicated team of police personnel is currently investigating the case. We will provide further information once we receive the necessary medical reports,” Lower Subansiri Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra said.
The district police, with the assistance of forensic experts, conducted a search and seized all available evidence from the room.
“A postmortem is scheduled for Wednesday after which the bodies will be handed over to the family members who have been informed about the eventuality,” the SP said.
Three unnatural death cases under section 174 of the CrPC have been registered and are being investigated by sub-inspector J Doye.
During the initial investigation, it was found that there is a missing FIR registered against the deceased Nair in Trivandrum.
While initial inquiries also suggest a possible case of suicide, authorities are awaiting the postmortem report to confirm the cause of death.
