Mizoram grapples with over 14,000 refugees from Myanmar, Bangladesh

Aizawl: The Champhai district level committee on Myanmar and Bangladesh refugees disclosed that as of April 27, 2024, there are a staggering 14,499 refugees seeking shelter in the district, situated on the Indo-Myanmar border.

Among them, 4,245 are male and 4,524 are female, while a distressing 5,730 are children.

This revelation emerged during a crucial meeting of the committee, chaired by Champhai DC James Lalrinchhana. The district, known for its compassionate response to refugee crises, has witnessed the largest influx of refugees in the state due to its close proximity with the border.
