Kohima: Vishü Rita Krocha of The Morung Express has been elected unopposed as president of the Kohima Press Club (KPC) for the 2026–29 tenure. The election was held on Saturday at the club’s office in Kohima.
All members of the new executive council were elected unopposed. Vincent Belho of Doordarshan Kendra Kohima was elected vice-president, while Seyiekietuo Keretsü and Nzanbemo Khuvung, both from Nagaland Post, were elected general secretary and joint secretary respectively. Reyivolu Rhakho of Eastern Mirror was elected treasurer.
The election process was conducted by a three-member commission headed by Chizokho Vero, with Atou Liezietsu and Wapangsungla Longkumer as members.
According to the commission, the election process began on March 1, with March 21 initially scheduled as the polling date. However, it was postponed to March 28 due to unforeseen circumstances. A notification was subsequently issued on March 22 under Article VIII of the KPC Constitution for conducting the election through a secret ballot system.
The electoral roll, consisting of 51 members, was finalised on March 25 after no objections were received. Nominations were filed between March 26 and March 27, with five candidates submitting their nominations. Following scrutiny, all nominations were found valid.
As there were no contestants for any of the posts, all five candidates were declared elected unopposed.
During a formal ceremony, Krocha said she was honoured to be elected and committed to serving the fraternity to the best of her ability.
Yhoshü congratulated the new team and expressed confidence in its leadership.
The programme began with a prayer by Rana Chetri, followed by the presentation of the election report and the handing over of certificates by the Election Commissioner. It concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Wapangsungla Longkumer, who also chaired the programme.
