Northeast states discuss strategies to improve power sector cooperation

Aizawl: The 31st meeting of the Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) under the North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) was held on Wednesday at the KTP Youth Resource Centre, Falkland. The meeting was chaired by Er. J.H. Malsawma, Engineer-in-Chief of the Power & Electricity Department, Government of Mizoram.

Addressing the gathering, Pansngiat Sun, Chairman of the TCC, welcomed the delegates and expressed appreciation for holding the TCC and NERPC meetings in Mizoram, describing the state as a beautiful and pleasant host. She highlighted the importance of advancing towards greater self-reliance in renewable energy and encouraged participants to engage in meaningful discussions that would help strengthen the power sector in the region.

In his remarks, Er. J.H. Malsawma said it was a pleasure for participants to experience the scenic beauty of Mizoram. He noted that electricity remains one of the most critical drivers of development and emphasized that the TCC meeting plays a significant role in strengthening the power sector. He expressed hope that the discussions would be productive and contribute to improved cooperation and development among the North-Eastern states.

During the meeting, members deliberated on several key issues concerning the power sector, including capacity building and training related to emerging technologies, measures to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply, ways to enhance cooperation among North-Eastern states in the power sector, and addressing challenges currently faced in the region.

The TCC meeting serves as an important platform where various organizations involved in the power sector across the North-Eastern region come together to review operations, improve coordination, and strengthen grid management.

This year, the meetings of the NERPC and TCC are being hosted by the Power & Electricity Department, Government of Mizoram, with participation from around 25 utilities, companies, and organizations from different North-Eastern states.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) will be held tomorrow, March 12, 2026, at the YRC. All Power Ministers from the North-Eastern states are expected to attend, although some members may be unable to participate due to ongoing Assembly sessions in their respective states.
