Infrastructure, refugees, and more: Here’s what Lalduhoma discussed with PM Modi

Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday, where the two leaders held a detailed and constructive discussion on a range of crucial issues impacting the state.

Among the major topics discussed were the progress of the Thenzawl Peace City Project, the status of the Aizawl–Thenzawl National Highway, and the implementation of the Handholding Policy for supporting local governance and development.

The meeting also addressed the ongoing humanitarian impact of the conflict in Chin Hills, Myanmar, which has led to a steady influx of refugees into Mizoram.

One of the critical infrastructure issues raised by Lalduhoma was the Gas Pipeline Project currently being undertaken by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL), with an investment of ₹926.5 crore. The project aims to provide piped gas connections to households in Aizawl, where many residents currently face shortages and are unable to access regular LPG cylinders. The Chief Minister urged for faster implementation of the project to benefit urban households.

Prime Minister Modi reportedly assured support and directed that the Deputy Commissioner of Mamit District be tasked with actively coordinating the pipeline route and facilitating the work efficiently.

The Chief Minister also pressed for the early commissioning of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line and the opening of the new Sairang Railway Station. In response, the Prime Minister conveyed his willingness to inaugurate the station in person during a mutually convenient time.
