Imphal: Additional Chief Secretary (Transport & TCI) Anurag Bajpai reviewed the progress of construction of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB), along with its apron, approach road from the national highway, power and water supply systems, and other ongoing works at Imphal International Airport during a meeting held at the project office of the Airports Authority of India on Saturday, an official said.
The review meeting was attended by Transport Director Khumanthem Diana Devi; Deputy Commissioner (Imphal West) Mayanglambam Rajkumar; Superintendent of Police (Imphal West); the Director of AAI; and representatives from the Public Works Department (PWD), Manipur Power Distribution Company Limited (MPDCL), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the project team.
It was noted that construction activities have resumed in full swing since the last review held in December 2025, following prolonged delays caused by multiple factors, including conflict-related challenges.
The overall physical progress of the NITB project currently stands at approximately 50 per cent completion.
During the review, all concerned agencies were directed to strictly adhere to the timelines prescribed during the previous meeting and to ensure that the construction of the NITB, apron, power supply and water supply systems is completed before 31 December 2026, in accordance with the prescribed date of completion (PDC).
Officials from the Imphal West district administration and the PWD were instructed to expedite the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) process for the acquisition of land required for constructing the approach road linking the national highway to the NITB.
Additionally, the Transport Department, in coordination with AAI, held discussions with officials of Alliance Airregarding the early commencement of flight services on the Imphal–Silchar route.
The feasibility of enhancing regional connectivity by linking Imphal with Dibrugarh Airport was also explored as part of broader efforts to strengthen air networks in the region.
Further, the Additional Chief Secretary and the Transport Director, along with the Director of AAI and CISF officials, inspected the new cargo terminal. The project agency was directed to complete the installation of all necessary equipment and commence operations at the facility by 30 April 2026.
The Director of AAI was also requested to expedite the necessary security clearances from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to make the cargo terminal operational within the stipulated timeline.
Emphasising the importance of coordinated execution, Bajpai stressed the need for stronger inter-agency collaboration, adherence to deadlines, and efficient implementation of project components.
He underscored that timely completion of the airport infrastructure would play a critical role in boosting regional connectivity, facilitating economic growth, and improving overall passenger and cargo movement in Manipur.
The review concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to accelerate progress and ensure that the project is delivered within the set timeframe.
