The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, has inaugurated a new Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) to enhance medical research capacity and improve patient access to advanced therapies in the Northeast. The unit was officially launched on October 15.
The CTU aims to facilitate both investigator-led and sponsor-driven studies, promoting ethical, patient-centred clinical research aligned with regional and national health priorities.
AIIMS Guwahati Executive Director Prof Ashok Puranik said the new unit would play a vital role in strengthening research infrastructure in the region. He said the initiative will help translate science into better health outcomes and create opportunities for investigators to carry out rigorous clinical studies.
Dear Reader,
Every day, our team at EastMojo travels through rain, rough roads, and remote hills to bring you stories that matter – stories from your town, your people, your Northeast.
We do this because we believe in truthful, independent journalism. No big corporate backing, no government pressure – just honest reporting by local journalists who live and breathe the same air you do.
But to keep doing this work, we need you. Your small contribution helps us pay our reporters fairly, reach places others ignore, and keep asking the tough questions.
If you believe the Northeast deserves its own fearless voice, stand with us.
Support independent journalism. Be a Member.
Thank you,

He added that the unit will also support collaborations with national and international research networks, building a sustainable talent base in clinical research and expanding access to emerging therapies for patients in the region.
AIIMS Guwahati has been positioned as a key centre for healthcare innovation in the Northeast, working to bridge gaps in medical access and research while fostering partnerships to improve public health outcomes.
