Nioh 3 announced at State of Play, demo available now on PS5

Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have officially announced Nioh 3, the latest title in the action role-playing series, during Sony’s June State of Play presentation. Alongside the announcement, the developers released a free, limited-time demo of the game, which is now available for PlayStation 5 users.

The Nioh series, which began in 2017, is known for its soulslike combat and mythological themes rooted in Japanese folklore. The first game followed Irish sailor-turned-samurai William Adams, while Nioh 2, released in 2020, introduced players to Hidechiyo, a half-yokai protagonist in a prequel setting.

Nioh 3 continues the series’ dark fantasy narrative and features a character creation system similar to its predecessor. Team Ninja confirmed that player feedback from the demo will be considered during ongoing development.

The game introduces two distinct combat styles. While the returning Samurai style focuses on traditional techniques, the new Ninja style enables faster movement, dodging, and aerial combat options.

No release date has yet been confirmed for the full version of Nioh 3, but the demo provides early access to gameplay mechanics and systems.

Players and fans of the series have responded positively to the surprise demo release, with some expressing curiosity about the game’s mechanics, including whether the Yokai Shift and Living Weapon systems from previous titles will return, or if Nioh 2 character data can be imported.
