Dibrugarh: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland/Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN) has claimed responsibility for the attack on an Assam Rifles camp at Ranglom village in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
In a statement issued on Monday, the outfit said its Naga Army tactical unit targeted the 4th Assam camp around 8 am. It claimed that casualties, if any, could not be independently confirmed as the area was subsequently locked down by security forces.
Describing the attack as a “necessary step,” the NSCN/GPRN accused Indian security forces of harassing civilians and asserted that it would continue its operations to “defend the Naga homeland.”
The attack occurred on Republic Day when the Assam Rifles camp at Ranglom, located close to the India–Myanmar border and about 10 km from the Changlang district headquarters, came under fire. Security sources said the attack took place at around 8:45 am and is believed to have been a joint operation involving cadres of ULFA (Independent) and NSCN (K-YA).
Following the assault, Assam Rifles personnel launched a counter-offensive. No injuries have been reported so far.
Security has since been tightened across the border areas, and a joint operation has been launched to track down the militants involved.
